Strange blessings

Last week, between the time I composed my blog and published it, I broke my left hand. The next day, x-rays revealed a twisted break of my fourth metacarpal, requiring surgery. I’m a lefty, and being completely sidelined certainly was not on my calendar.

Though I wasn’t prepared for it, I was blessed this week. Middle Daughter and her boys had arrived a few days earlier from Switzerland. They took me for surgery, and afterward, carried me to their vacation rental at the beach, where they cared for me.

Some of our blessings come in unexpected packages.

So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.

II Corinthians 4:16-18 The Message

Have you been surprised by blessings in strange circumstances?

  1. Thrilled that you were cared for and loved in your time of need.

And I am continuously surprised by experiencing the hand of God in moments of darkness.

  2. Jane, sorry about your hand. I have to hand it to you, you look for God and see Him in all circumstances. On the other hand you will not be able to play guitar and will have to hand that responsibility over to another. You are blessed to have your children and grands to give you a helping hand. Can you handle another sentence? Love you. M

  3. Hi Jane! I love your meditations! Thanks for sending them! I am so sorry you broke your hand (foot?) You said hand, but the metatarsals are in your feet. I think you meant metacarpals! Anyhow, so sorry that you are having pain and discomfort from the fracture! Hope it heals very soon! Jack asked me to lend him some small sails, etc., so the kids can try to windsurf. I am happy to do that whenever you all need the gear! Cheers! God bless you, and help you heal fast! Pat
